Nebenzia: Russia is against BiH joining NATO

NEW YORK, (Patria) - Russia is against the course leading to BiH's involvement in NATO because it would sharpen contradictions within the country, said Russian Ambassador to the UN Vasily Nebenzia.

He pointed out that in this case, "general consensus provided for by the Dayton Agreement cannot be reached due to the principled stance of Serbs in BiH who are sharply against any lines of division between Republika Srpska and Serbia.

Nebenzia added that Russia, as a member of the Contact Group and the Peace Implementation Council (PIC) Steering Board, is committed to sustainable development in BiH.

- We will never, under any responsibility, sign the country's involvement in Euro-Atlantic structures - Nebenzia said at a UN Security Council meeting in New York where a resolution on extending the EU military mission Operation "Althea" in BiH was adopted.
