NDP, PDP, journalists and bloggers targeted by hackers: Orchestrated attack on critics of the authorities in RS

Last night around 6 PM, the National Democratic Movement's profile on the Twitter social network was targeted by a hacker attack, the party announced, reports Patria News Agency.

- This is a hacker attack, which works by having our tweets, or posts we have written, shared and multiplied multiple times on this social network at a dizzying speed. We noticed that the profiles that started doing this en masse are fake, or "bot" profiles, and that they are located all over the world, from Kazakhstan to Canada. We temporarily managed to block the attack by locking the profile, and the mass sharing of posts stopped.

In short, by 7 PM last night, our posts had over 70,000 views in one hour. Normally, the NDP profile has a total of 817 followers on this social network, so our visibility usually reaches a maximum of twice that number, making these figures impossible.

By locking the profile, we can still publish content, but it is impossible for it to reach a wider audience on this social network because the content sharing option on the profile becomes invalid.

- In the meantime, we learned that this is an orchestrated attack on precisely selected Twitter profiles from Republika Srpska that is still ongoing. The official profile of PDP, opposition MPs in the National Assembly of Republika Srpska, organizations and associations of citizens, as well as journalists and bloggers who are critical of the current regime in Republika Srpska have also been attacked. This is the only connection between the "targets" of this cyber attack.

The National Democratic Movement condemns this shameful act of attempting to settle scores with different opinions by brutally eliminating them from social networks and calls on the competent institutions to investigate this attack on the citizens of Republika Srpska.
