NATO under tension, Erdogan and Trump seek 'new page' in relations

(Patria) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will meet with US President Donald Trump this evening within the framework of the NATO summit in The Hague. The meeting is scheduled for 11:30 PM, and key topics will be Turkey's return to the F-35 program, the situation in Syria, and the Israeli-Iranian conflict.

Erdogan stated that he wants to "open a new page" in relations between the two countries.

The NATO summit is being held on June 24 and 25 in The Hague, and the main topic will be the adoption of a target of 5% of GDP for defense spending. According to the proposal of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, 3.5% of this amount will be directed towards military capabilities, while 1.5% will include security investments and aid to Ukraine.

European allies currently allocate about 1.9% of GDP for defense, Canada 1.4%, while the US allocates about 3.5%.
