NATO to patrol Montenegro's skies from today

PODGORICA, (Patria) - Fighter jets of the Italian and Greek air forces, in cooperation with the Air Force of the Army of Montenegro, will protect Montenegro's airspace from today, RTCG reported.

On the occasion of the start of the protection of Montenegro's airspace on the first anniversary of the country's membership in NATO, a demonstration exercise of landing an "intruder aircraft" was organized.

The role of the intruder aircraft to be intercepted was played by a Government of Montenegro aircraft, carrying the Minister of Defence Predrag Bošković and a NATO representative. The demonstration exercise was successfully completed.

After the demonstration exercise, Minister Bošković said that our skies and seas are protected from today.

"We have turned to the future and brought Montenegro to a level that represents a new quality of life, a new security aspect," said Bošković, thanking the NATO leaders, who, he added, recognized what Montenegro had done.

The Ministry of Defence of Montenegro stated that the Air Policing mission is one of the most significant forms of direct benefit of Montenegro's membership in NATO.

The Ministry explained that the NATO Air Policing mission ensures the integrity of the airspace of allied countries and their protection through non-stop patrolling within NATO's Integrated Air and Missile Defence System.
