NATO provides radar to Montenegro for airspace surveillance

The new radar that NATO has provided to Montenegro shows that member states help each other, said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. It is a ground-based radar for airspace surveillance. Its coverage is 500 kilometers, and its diverse computer control enables radar coverage at an altitude of 30,000 meters.

"The purpose of NATO is solidarity, to protect and defend each other and to help each other. The new radar we are giving to Montenegro shows that we truly help each other," Stoltenberg said at a press conference, ahead of the meeting of NATO member states' defense ministers, which will begin on Wednesday in Brussels, RTCG reports, NAP conveys.

As he stated, this is the reason, especially for small countries, to be part of NATO, "because then they are part of a family, an organization, where we help and support each other."

"This is important for Montenegro, but it is also important for all NATO allies," Stoltenberg said.

He added that it is not only smaller members that receive support, citing the example of large investments in infrastructure in Poland.

"This shows that NATO provides assistance by investing in infrastructure in many member states," said the Secretary General of the Alliance.

Speaking about the ratification process of the Accession Protocol for North Macedonia, Stoltenberg said that NATO enlargement is an excellent, successful story that has helped spread democracy, stability, and prosperity across Europe.

He reminded that the allies signed the Accession Protocol in February and added that he is not sure if the country will be able to become the 30th member of NATO by December.
