Trial of Sanjin Sefić Continues, Families Hope for Verdict Before Summer Break

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - At today's continuation of the trial of Sanjin Sefić, accused of serious criminal offenses against the safety of public traffic and the criminal offense of failing to provide assistance to a person injured in a traffic accident in the case of the deaths of Selma Malkoč and Edita Agić, Saud Nišić testified. The Prosecution charges him with aiding the accused after the commission of the criminal offense, i.e., that he helped hide the car with which Sefić struck two female students.

During his testimony, Nišić stated that he was not an accomplice and that he did not participate in hiding the car with which Sefić killed Selma and Edita. He also stated in his testimony that he is a drug user.

Today, Elmir Hodžić, a defense witness for the accused Nišić, also testified, recounting how he drove around the city with Saud that night and, when they returned to Nišić's house, they found Sara Sefić, Sanjin's sister. He said that the police found the Golf behind the house.

The trial continues in ten days, and after the hearing, the Agić and Malkoč families, who come from Bugojno and Bosanska Krupa, expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of the trial. They hope that a verdict could be delivered before the summer break.

According to the indictment, on October 10, in the late-night hours, Sefić was driving a Golf VI at high speed and ran a red light at a pedestrian crossing near the National Museum, striking the female students. One of them died instantly from her injuries, while the other lost her life in the hospital.

After the horrific accident, Sefić fled the scene, and on the morning of October 11, he crossed into Serbia via the GO Uvac border crossing, where he was arrested and extradited to the Bosnian judiciary on January 9, 2017.
