NASA astronaut hospitalized after returning from ISS

(Patria) - A NASA astronaut who returned from the International Space Station (ISS) has been hospitalized due to an undetermined health condition, but remains stable, the American agency announced.

The four-person Crew-8 mission splashed down early Friday off the coast of Florida after nearly eight months in the orbital laboratory. Returning to Earth, the SpaceX Dragon performed a normal return and water landing, and the recovery of the crew and spacecraft went without incident, NASA announced.

But during routine medical evaluations on the recovery ship, "additional crew member evaluations were requested out of an abundance of caution," it added, without elaboration, AFP reported.

Astronauts Matthew Dominick, Michael Barratt, and Jeanette Epps, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Alexander Grebenkin were transported to Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola. Three have been released, while one of NASA's astronauts remains in the hospital "under observation as a precautionary measure".

NASA stated it would not release specific medical information to protect the crew member's privacy but would provide updates when available.
