Soup kitchen in Zenica feeds almost 2,000 people

The soup kitchen, or city kitchen in Zenica, has 1,800 users, socially endangered persons, elderly and infirm who receive one meal each day. Citizens pick up their meal of salvation through 10 points across Zenica, writes the Patria News Agency.

- There are 12 employees in the kitchen (bakers, cooks...) who work as part of the soup kitchen and make bread for our users, there is also a driver and an auxiliary worker who distribute food. Volunteers, women who are socially endangered and work three hours a day for a food package, distribute food at the points - stated Dževada Halilbašić, head of the city kitchen.

There are no problems in the functioning of the city kitchen, but donations are needed, says Halilbašić. Any addition to the main meal is welcome. The meal is always something cooked, with 300 grams of meat and 200 grams of bread.

Red Cross

The soup kitchen is financed in two parts, the first part from the city and the second part from donations. They receive great help from the Red Cross of the Municipality of Zenica, through volunteers and food packages.

- Every week, on Tuesdays, two volunteers from the Red Cross come and help us with our work. They spend four hours here and mostly help the cooks with their work. I take this opportunity to thank Amra and the Red Cross for their help - says Halilbašić.
