Tense situation in Belgrade: Demonstrators entered RTS building, police followed

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Talks are underway in the Radio Television of Serbia building between the president of the Dveri movement and one of the leaders of the Alliance for Serbia, Boško Obradović, and a police representative. Thousands of participants of the "One in Five Million" protest are in front of the building. Serbian Minister of Internal Affairs Nebojša Stefanović stated that this is about "violence, threats to journalists, demolition because you don't like someone's editorial policy".

According to Serbian media reports, the head of the Belgrade police told Obradović that the police do not want to use force against citizens, but will not allow the building to be endangered or employees of the public broadcaster to be attacked. Police entered the RTS building and ordered the demonstrators to leave. However, opposition leaders are on the fourth floor, seeking an agreement with RTS management for a public address to the nation. Protest organizers claim that entering RTS was spontaneous, not planned, and not aimed at violence. 

An appeal was made to Obradović to leave the building and talk to the citizens who remained outside, in order to "lower the temperature". Obradović responded that no one wants to destroy property or attack employees, but only wants one of the organizers to get the right to speak on RTS. 

A part of the demonstrators from this evening's "1 in 5 Million" protest, led by Boško Obradović, entered the RTS building from Aberdareva Street. Police also arrived at the RTS building. Protest participants threw eggs at the Public Broadcaster's building. After that, led by Obradović, they entered the RTS premises.  They taped the corridors and announced they would broadcast live. 

Previously, they announced that they would block RTS for two hours to, as last time, hold an improvised "News of Free Serbia".

Otherwise, protest participants have set a deadline of April 13 for Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and Prime Minister Ana Brnabić to resign, when mass protests are announced.
