Attacks on returnees occur because institutions in BiH function on a political matrix

Goran Kovačević, assistant professor at the Faculty of Criminalistics, Criminology and Security Studies in Sarajevo and president of the Association „Friends of BH“ condemned the attack on a Bosniak returnee in Vlasenica that occurred on Saturday evening, as well as the torture by the Prijedor police on the same day against fans from Bihać, reports the news agency Patria.

Kovačević assessed that it is unacceptable for a Bosniak returnee to be beaten just a few meters from two police patrols, and for the police not to protect him in the process.

It is also unacceptable, Kovačević said, for the police to beat fans, curse their Muslim mothers, and threaten renewed slaughter and killing because they are Bosniaks.

Kovačević earlier warned that the security situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina is compromised because institutions in BiH function on a political matrix, which has led the country into a difficult situation.

This security expert warned that it is necessary, through joint actions of the civil sector and representatives of the international community, to depoliticize key institutions in BiH, with the aim of their professionalization and involvement in solving problems in the country, reports NAP.
