(Patria) - According to information obtained by the media, Navid Akram's driver's license was found at the scene of the attack, and beneath it was a hunting association membership card.
A membership card of the Serbian hunting association "Zastava" was found in the wallet of the suspect in the terrorist attack on Bondi Beach in Sydney.
The president of the "Zastava" hunting association from Sydney, Vanja Kužet, confirmed to Blic that the suspect Navid Akram (24) possessed their membership card, but that he had not seen him for over five years and that the association does not issue firearm permits.
In the horrific terrorist attack that occurred yesterday during the Hanukkah celebration on Bondi Beach, Navid Akram and his father Sadžid Akram (50) opened fire on the gathered citizens. At least 16 people were killed and 42 were injured in the attack. Australian authorities have characterized the attack as terrorism.
According to information obtained by the media, Navid Akram's driver's license was found at the scene of the attack, and beneath it was a membership card of the "Zastava Hunting Association" from the state of New South Wales, which brings together a part of the Serbian community in Sydney.
Association president Vanja Kužet confirmed the authenticity of the membership card, but emphasized that the association has no connection with issuing firearm permits.
"He had our membership card, but we do not issue firearm permits. Permits are obtained exclusively through the police. We exclusively conduct safety training and hunting training in accordance with the laws of New South Wales. That man had not visited us for over five years and I do not remember his face," said Kužet.
He added that the Australian federal police also contacted them after the attack.
"He attended safety training with us at the time, i.e., training on safe hunting. We do not support or associate ourselves in any way with such crimes. What happened is horrific," said Kužet.
The "Zastava" hunting association is located about 50 kilometers from the scene of the attack, and besides hunting activities, it also serves as a gathering place for the Serbian community in that part of Australia.
Firearms experts who analyzed footage from the scene of the attack estimate that the attackers were trained. According to them, the younger attacker used a Ruger sport rifle with a red dot sight, while his father was armed with a semi-automatic shotgun. A third weapon, which has not yet been identified, was also used in the attack.
