Berlin attacker came via Balkan route, police raid hangar with refugees

The attacker who killed at least 12 people and injured 48 others with a truck in Berlin last night was arrested shortly after the attack. He is identified as Naved B., a refugee from Pakistan, reports Die Welt, who arrived in Germany in February via the Balkan migrant route, German media report, Patria reports.

It is also added that the 23-year-old man lived in a refugee center near Berlin and was previously known to police for minor offenses.

Early this morning, German special forces raided a hangar at the former Tempelhof Airport in southern Berlin.

Tempelhof, one of the largest building complexes in the world, mostly built by the Nazis, is currently used as a refugee center.

The attack occurred on Monday evening, at a time when the largest number of people had gathered near traditional stalls with Christmas products, food and drinks at the Christmas market.
