London Centre Attack: Nineteen-year-old stabs woman to death, injures five

One woman was killed and five people were injured in a knife attack in central London. A suspect, a 19-year-old man, has been arrested, police reported on Thursday, according to the Patria News Agency. 

It is believed that the perpetrator has a mental disorder. The murdered woman was in her 60s. Doctors attempted to provide first aid on the spot, but she succumbed to her injuries. The severity of the injuries of the five people injured in this incident is currently unknown.

The Deputy Assistant Commissioner for Specialist Operations at the Metropolitan Police, Mark Rowley, stated that the case is being led by the homicide unit, with support from the counter-terrorism command, the BBC writes.

London police had previously reported that they would deploy an additional 600 armed police officers throughout the city to protect against possible terrorist attacks. Most police officers in London do not carry firearms, and the additional forces will be visible and will cover the entire city, on foot and in vehicles, Index reports.
