Attack at Super Bowl winners' parade, one woman killed, 22 injured

(Patria) - One person was killed and 22 were injured in an attack in Missouri at the end of the victory parade of the Kansas City Chiefs, who won this year's Super Bowl. Eight people sustained life-threatening injuries, and seven were seriously injured, with their injuries also potentially life-threatening, officials said.

Among the injured are nine children, but they are all expected to recover. Police announced they have arrested three suspects in connection with the shooting.

Shots were fired west of Union Station, a train station in downtown Kansas City, where the parade concluded around 2 PM local time. Thousands of people were present at the scene.

Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves stated that officers responded immediately and quickly launched an investigation. Firefighters also joined the effort, providing assistance to the injured.

More than 800 police officers were already on site to monitor the parade, officials said.

In a statement, U.S. President Joe Biden also addressed the issue of gun violence in the country. "Today's events should move us, shock us, shame us, and spur us to action," he said, calling for gun law reform aimed at banning assault weapons in the U.S.
