(Patria) - One tourist was killed and five were injured in an armed attack in Tel Aviv on Friday, Israeli authorities announced. Israeli authorities announced that an Italian tourist was killed and five more Italian and British citizens were injured, agencies report.
Three of them, including a 17-year-old, sustained moderate to severe injuries, while two sustained minor injuries, the rescue service announced. An Israeli security source identified the attacker as an Arab Israeli from the town of Kafr Qassem.
A police officer who was nearby arrived at the scene and found several injured people and an overturned car near a popular promenade in Tel Aviv. The officer "neutralized" the driver of the car, who was armed with a pistol, the police announced.
This was the second deadly attack on Friday, after two Israeli sisters were killed when their car was shot at in the occupied West Bank. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu subsequently instructed the police "to mobilize all reserve units of the border police and directed the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) to mobilize additional forces to counter terrorist attacks," his office announced, AFP reported.
The Israeli emergency service Magen David Adom announced that all victims in the Tel Aviv attack were tourists. Police announced that four reserve companies of the border police will be called up in the coming days.
