After the attack on the Nord Stream pipeline, Germany prepares for possible sabotage

(Patria) - After the attack on the Nord Stream pipeline and sabotage on the German railway network, German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser today promised better protection of critical infrastructure in Germany, while representatives of German cities are demanding better information for citizens in the event of a power outage.

"The Russian war of aggression against Ukraine represents a turning point when it comes to our internal security, and that is why we must prepare," said Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (Social Democratic Party of Germany SPD) in an interview with the daily Süddeutsche Zeitung, as reported by Index.hr.

The minister explained that the relevant authorities have already stepped up security measures "where necessary." She specifically cited increased coastal guard patrols near important infrastructure facilities.

Faeser also announced the adoption of a law that would oblige companies that own particularly important infrastructure systems, such as underwater pipelines, to adhere to higher security standards.

"Owners must better protect themselves against sabotage and terrorism, as well as natural disasters," said Faeser.
