(Patria) - The European Union's ambassador to Sudan was attacked at his home in Khartoum, said EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borell, agencies reported.
"A few hours ago, the EU ambassador to Sudan was attacked in his residence," Borrell wrote on Twitter, adding that "this is a gross violation of the Vienna Convention. The security of diplomatic premises and personnel is the primary responsibility of the Sudanese authorities and an obligation under international law."
EU spokesperson Nabila Massrali told AFP that the ambassador, Irish diplomat Aidan O'Hara, was "well" after the attack, adding that "the security of our staff is our priority. The EU delegation has not been evacuated. Security measures are being considered."
More than 180 people have been killed and over 1,800 injured in the fighting that broke out three days ago between the Sudanese army led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group led by General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hemedti, according to yesterday's United Nations information.
