Largest mining accident in the last three years

The accident that occurred in the Zenica Brown Coal Mine last night half an hour after midnight in the Raspotočje mine due to a rock burst, i.e., sudden release of pressure where a large amount of rock collapsed on a part of the chamber excavation and narrower preparation areas, and where 11 miners were injured, is the largest mining accident in this mine in the last three years, reports NAP.

The director of RMU Zenica, Esad Čivić, told the Patria News Agency that the miners were at the beginning of the third shift, and that two miners were seriously injured and admitted for treatment at the Cantonal Hospital in Zenica, while nine were released for home treatment.

- We often have such accidents, pressure releases in the Raspotočje mine because mining is done at great depths. We had a rock burst of this intensity three years ago, but smaller rock bursts are almost daily, but they did not have such consequences and material damage as was the case last night – Čivić told NAP.
