SARAJEVO, (Patria) – In 2019, 452 professional soldiers left the AF BiH for various reasons: retirement, permanent health disability, personal request, death, or contract expiration, according to official data from the Ministry of Defense of BiH.
For years, there has been talk about the low salaries of AF BiH soldiers, i.e., the imbalance between professional soldiers and officers (second lieutenant, lieutenant, captain, major, colonel, brigadier, brigadier general, major general, and colonel general).
According to data obtained by the Patria News Agency, the difference between the salary of a colonel general and a soldier is 3,670 KM, which is six times higher than a soldier's salary. The salary of a colonel general is 4,376 KM, and the salary of a soldier is 706 KM, a Class I soldier 725 KM, and a corporal 750 KM. A sergeant earns 790 KM, while senior sergeants and warrant officers earn between 828 KM and 976 KM.
The salary of a second lieutenant is 1,220 KM, a lieutenant 1,284 KM, a captain 1,349 KM, a major 1,445 KM, a colonel 1,586 KM, and a brigadier 1,901 KM.
Besides the colonel general, the highest salaries are earned by the major general at 3,556 KM and the brigadier general at 3,282 KM.
The calculation is made according to the Law on Salaries and Benefits in BiH Institutions.
When it comes to pensions, it amounts to 3,282 KM for a colonel general, while the lowest for a sergeant is 592 KM.
