LARGEST OPERATION TO DATE: Pomozi.ba plans to distribute 600 tons of food

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The humanitarian organization Pomozi.ba plans to distribute 600 tons of food to socially vulnerable people at the end of April and during May.

Around 500 tons of food is intended for people in need across Bosnia and Herzegovina, and 100 tons for children in Yemen.

This will be the largest food distribution operation organized by Pomozi.ba teams to date, and it is planned to help at least 20,000 families in BiH. Food items will be distributed in packages of 25 to 50 kg, depending on the number of family members, according to a Pomozi.ba press release.

Of the mentioned quantities, 400 tons for BiH and about 50 tons for Yemen have already been secured, while the remaining quantities are yet to be collected.

"This means that all those who wish to participate in this operation will be able to do so by donating food or money until the end of May. The operation has already been supported by a large number of individuals, legal entities, as well as public figures. This activity overlaps with our traditional Ramadan operation, so this time we have combined everything into one large package distribution operation, but iftar meals will also be delivered to homes," said the founder of the Pomozi.ba organization, Elvir Karalić.

The distribution of food packages will be carried out in cooperation with numerous local associations to reach all parts of BiH.

"We believe that smaller local organizations operating in a specific area know the situation on the ground much better than we do, and we will personally distribute packages in all places where we have our sectors. Unlike previous years, this year we will distribute more modest packages because our goal is to reach as many people as possible, especially due to the current situation caused by the coronavirus. We do not want to find ourselves in a situation where we help 50 families with larger packages in one place and do not help another 50 families at all. For this reason, we have decided to distribute more modest packages, but so that everyone, or most people, receive something, because we are aware that despite everything, we will not be able to satisfy everyone," Karalić added.

One truck with 25,600 kg of flour is already on its way to the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton today, and other goods will be distributed in the coming period.

As for Yemen, food distribution will be carried out, as last year, through the partner organization Rahma Austria. A phone number, 17014, is also active for Yemen and will be operational until the end of May.

The number is unique for all operators in BiH, and each call donates 2 KM.

Monetary donations for the food package distribution operation can be paid through the standard accounts of the Pomozi.ba organization, and from April 27th, money can also be donated online through the website www.pomozi.ba.
