At least 40 civilians killed in Israeli shelling of displaced persons' tents in Rafah

(Patria) - At least 40 civilians were killed yesterday, and others injured, mostly children and women, in Israeli bombing of tents of displaced people northwest of the city of Rafah, WAFA reported.

Local sources report that at least 40 citizens were killed, and others injured, after Israeli forces targeted, with at least eight missiles, the tents of people who had taken refuge in a camp for the displaced that was recently established near the warehouses of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), northwest of Rafah.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) reported that its crews transported a large number of bodies and injured people after the tents of the displaced in Rafah were hit. PRCS warned that hospitals are unable to cope with this large number of casualties due to Israel's deliberate destruction of the health system in Gaza, noting that some of the casualties were transported to makeshift medical centers, the Palestinian agency WAFA reported.

PRCS said that the people who were in the tents, mostly children and women, were burned alive.
The targeted area, which teems with thousands of displaced persons, was previously declared a safe zone by Israel. Since October 7 last year, following Hamas's attack on southern Israel which killed about 1,200 people, mostly civilians, 35,984 people have been killed in the Israeli operation, the majority of whom were children and women, and 80,643 people have been injured. Thousands of victims are still missing under the rubble, or scattered on the roads, WAFA reports.
