NAHOREVO - CRIME WITHOUT PUNISHMENT: BiH Prosecution's Incompetence and Sarić's Acquittal a Bitter Pill for Victims' Families, Raising Questions About Justice?

(Patria) - The 31st anniversary of the crime against prisoners and citizens of the Nahorevo settlement was marked today in the Sarajevo settlement of Nahorevo, who, during the war in 1992, were held captive in the premises of the Jagomir Psychiatric Hospital, or were taken to the surrounding hills where they were brutally killed.

Eighty people brought from Nahorevo, Brekin potok, and other parts of Sarajevo were held in this camp, some of whom were killed, and others were transported to the infamous camp “kod Sonje“ in Vogošća. Eighteen people, who were previously held in this camp and then taken in an unknown direction, are still being searched for.

Goran Sarić, the accused for crimes in Nahorevo and former head of the Public Security Station Centar, was acquitted by the Court of BiH of charges that he supervised and participated in the separation of men held at the Jagomir Psychiatric Hospital in Sarajevo in June 1992.

The outrage over this verdict and the BiH Prosecution's inability to prove its claims is a bitter pill for survivors and families still searching for the missing. In addition to being awarded freedom, Sarić is now seeking compensation from the state because his guilt was not proven!

In mid-June 1992, Serb police officers summoned the residents of Nahorevo to the Local Community building, after which about a hundred of them were arrested and transported by truck to Jagomir, where they were held.

Do we have justice? ask the residents of Nahorevo today, who are still searching for the bones of their loved ones.

Sarić was accused of separating detainees in Jagomir into three groups: the first group consisted of 60 detainees who were forcibly transferred to Sarajevo; the second group consisted of 26 Bosniaks who were transferred to the Bunker camp in Vogošća; while the third group consisted of 11 individuals who were later killed in the Skakavac area of Sarajevo.
