Nationalism: Fire set at Subotica mosque, material damage caused

Around 3:30 this morning, two as yet unknown individuals set fire to part of the Muhadžir Mosque in Subotica, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

On that occasion, the door and garage gate on the residential part of the building intended for the imam and his family were partially damaged.

Imam Selmo Dreković stated that everything was fine around 10 p.m., and that he was informed of the unfortunate event this morning.

- It was determined that the mosque was set on fire intentionally, there were two attackers, and material damage was caused. A passerby helped extinguish the fire. The police were here this morning and conducted an investigation. The perpetrators are visible on the video surveillance covering the mosque, and the footage has been handed over to the police - said Dreković.

The mayor of Subotica, Jene Maglai, said that the police are working to shed light on this case.

- We will not allow anyone to feel unsafe, and this event is dangerous for our community and this is a very bad message. We have increased control of facilities that we believe could be targets of attacks. I condemn such acts that are directed against our community - said Maglai, who expects the perpetrators to be caught.
