Kostrena Mayor Bans Marko Perković Thompson Concert

KOSTRENA, (Patria) - Local authorities in Kostrena have banned Thompson's concert, which was scheduled to take place on April 28th at the local Sports Hall.

Although the concert was officially announced, Thompson's management received a letter from Kostrena Public Utility Company, which manages the Sports Hall, informing them that the contract for temporary use of the hall is being cancelled, writes Novi list.

According to the letter, the reason for the concert's cancellation is that they believe that "at this moment, due to the political situation at the local level, Thompson's appearance is not appropriate". It further states that his concert "could be interpreted as an engagement on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Municipality of Kostrena or KD Kostrena".

It also states that the Mayor of Kostrena Municipality, Dražen Vranić, verbally proposed that Thompson's concert be "postponed indefinitely". Mayor Vranić says that no one there was aware that Thompson's concert was supposed to be held in Kostrena, nor were they asked about it.

He also considers it problematic that the Ministry of Interior did not give consent for this concert.

- Last week, and before the posters announcing the concert were put up, I had a meeting with Mr. Božinović during which we concluded that such an event would not take place, so for me, everything related to that concert was finished then, therefore I can neither ban nor allow something to happen that we concluded would not happen - Vranić told Novi list.

He also says that his stance is that Kostrena is simply not a place where "public events should be held that, instead of entertainment and enrichment of the social and cultural life of the place, would cause certain divisions and political polarization".
