Ilidža Mayor Muzur Paid Tribute to Fallen American Diplomats and French Soldier

(Patria) - Mayor Nermin Muzur, with a delegation from the Municipality of Ilidža, laid flowers today on Igman to pay tribute to three American diplomats and a French soldier who died on this day 27 years ago. 

On the eve of the anniversary of the deaths of US Assistant Secretary of Defense Joseph Kruzel, Special Envoy for former Yugoslavia Robert Frasure, US Air Force Colonel Samuel Nelson Drew, and French soldier Stephane Reault, the Municipality of Ilidža refurbished the site on Mount Igman where the Memorial dedicated to them is located, near which is also the transporter in which they perished. 

This tragic event only confirms that the aggressor's shells did not discriminate. 

- Just as we proudly remember the bravest sons and daughters who laid down their lives in defense of our homeland during the aggression, we must also preserve the memory of the people who fought to end the aggression and establish peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina - said the Mayor of the Municipality of Ilidža, Nermin Muzur. 

The route across Igman, which during the aggression was the only road communication for Sarajevo with the rest of the free territories, was often described in numerous media reports as "the most dangerous in Europe". 

Regardless of the epithet it earned in numerous media outlets, the route across Igman was also the lifeline for the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the aggression. 

It is difficult to determine the exact number of people killed and injured by the aggressor's artillery on the route across Igman, but it is certain that it is not insignificant. 

The road, on which members of US President Bill Clinton's peace mission also lost their lives, is a symbol of resistance and difficult times. 

- It is history. It is a symbol of resistance and survival, and precisely because of that, we decided to restore it so that we can foster a culture of remembrance for all those who gave their lives so that we can live normally today. May they be glorious - said Mayor Muzur.
