Mayor of Centar Municipality Dževad Bećirević „stood guard“ at the National Museum together with advisor Mustafa Resić and actor Enis Bešlagić. The trio gave full support to the campaign „I am the museum“ launched just over a month ago by the Association Akcija. The goal is to resolve the status of this important institution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which has been closed to visitors for nearly three years, reports the Patria news agency.
Mayor Bećirević wrote in the guest book: This institution is for me a matter of identity of the state and all its citizens. For the Centar Municipality, it is one of the most significant institutions. We can turn the museum into a place we will be proud of.
Bešlagić emphasized that he is optimistic about the future fate of the National Museum.
– I support the work of Dževad Bećirević, whom I see as a good man trying to do something where there is no state and where municipalities must react on their own.
It is not easy when you are one of the strongest municipalities and everyone pulls you by the sleeve asking for help, and in most cases you are not even responsible for all those problems. The National Museum is not just an issue for the Sarajevo Canton but for all of us, our history, what we are, where we came from, and what we belong to. All of us as citizens can come here and participate in this and help in our own way – said Bešlagić.
At the end of his „guard duty“, Mayor Bećirević said that the Centar Municipality will continue to financially support the work of the Museum, and that a proposal has been prepared for the Municipal Council session according to which this local community will allocate 150,000 KM each year for the next three years to finance cultural institutions.
Aida Kalender, from the Association Akcija, said that up to 150 citizens of BiH register daily for „guard duty“.
We have a great response to this campaign, and since the beginning of this campaign, about 1,500 citizens of BiH have „stood guard“. The campaign began with a photo exhibition by the celebrated Zijah Gafić, who took photos of museum employees and set up an exhibition of photographs titled „Guardians of the Museum“. The campaign continued with guard duties in the premises of the National Museum of BiH – said Kalender.
Those interested in this campaign can come to the National Museum every working day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., reports NAP.
