Ulcinj's Copacabana can accommodate up to 150,000 bathers

(Patria) - "Well, Switzerland doesn't have it, nor Australia…," says a Montenegrin coastal summer hit - and the same could be said for the popular beach at the very south of Montenegro.

Beautiful, sandy and stretching as long as 13 kilometres, this beauty bears a very logical name - Velika Plaza (Long Beach). Moreover, it is the longest on the Adriatic.

It is located in Ulcinj, and due to its popularity, it has earned the nickname Ulcinj's Copacabana.

It is only five kilometres from the town, so it is no wonder that many are willing to stretch their legs or get in the car just to spend the whole day here.

You don't need to worry much about finding your spot in the sun or leaving towels overnight. It is estimated that Velika Plaza can accommodate as many as 150,000 bathers.

An additional reason to choose this beach is its sand, which is rich in minerals, leading many to attribute healing properties to it, reports Punkufer.hr.

The beach is open, but those who are not fans of "frying" can enjoy themselves under large umbrellas or, even better, in the shade of the pine forest behind the beach.

Besides swimming and sunbathing, one of the most popular activities is kitesurfing, thanks to the pleasant winds that blow here in the summer. There is also room for divers, volleyball players, tennis players, handball players, those who love long shallows, and those who enjoy swimming out into the depths of the distant horizon.

Should we be surprised that the beach was praised by The New York Times, which included it among the most popular tourist destinations in 2010?

The entire area is great for a summer holiday because, besides this beach, there are about twenty more beaches lined up, so there is plenty of choice.

Incidentally, the beach and the town of Ulcinj are located near the mouth of the Bojana River into the Adriatic Sea. The Bojana is the natural border between Montenegro and Albania, so you already have material for excursions.

Just ten kilometres to the east lies the Albanian border, where a protected wetland landscape is located, and about forty kilometres to the north, the beautiful Lake Skadar awaits you.

And on the Bojana River itself, you can visit the beautiful island called Ada Bojana.
