Police outpost opened in Širokača, citizen safety is paramount

A police outpost of the Stari Grad Police Station was opened today in Širokača, where citizens of this local community will be able to contact the police in case they need their intervention. Initially, police officers will spend several hours a day at this outpost, including night hours, and citizens will be able to come for information, or provide it to the police, which has proven to be a good practice so far. The opening of this outpost, for which the Municipality of Stari Grad provided space and equipment, will increase the level of security for the citizens of Širokača, but also continue the practice of bringing the police closer to the citizens, reports Patria News Agency.

The Municipality of Stari Grad has allocated over 230,000 KM this year for the procurement of new equipment for the members of the Stari Grad Police Station. Mayor Ibrahim Hadžibajrić stated that the opening of this outpost is just a continuation of good cooperation, and that an outpost was previously opened in Mošćanica, while outposts in Bistrik, Medreset, and Gazin Han need to be equipped.

- We are particularly mindful of the peripheral areas of our municipality, and Širokača is precisely that, bordering the entity of Republika Srpska, and therefore this area was very susceptible to various types of crime. With this police outpost, we want to reduce that to the minimum possible extent. I appeal to the citizens, who, with their numerous requests, asked for the opening of such a police outpost, to cooperate with the police and thus help themselves and the police - said Hadžibajrić. He announced that for the next year, through the funds of the Civil Protection Service, the procurement of ten scooters for police officers is planned, which they will particularly use in police work at these outposts.

The commander of the Stari Grad Police Station, Safet Gagula, reminded that the police are primarily at the service of the citizens, and this outpost will serve as a place where citizens can contact them at any time.

- Previous projects of police work in the local community have proven to be very successful, and we have benefited greatly from the citizens. It is much easier for citizens when they know they have a police officer nearby every day, rather than having to come to the main police station. We also have significant visits from citizens at other outposts who come to be informed about police activities, but also to inform the police - said Gagula.

The opening of this outpost was requested by the citizens of the Širokača local community, through the Council of the Local Community. The President of the Council, Sanel Dragolovčanin, said that this way citizens will have a police officer at their service in the immediate vicinity at all times.

- Širokača has recently become a tourist attraction, a large part of Trebević territorially belongs to our local community, therefore there is a much larger flow of vehicles and people here, which can pose a danger to our children on the street, and the presence of police nearby is of great importance - said Dragolovčanin.

The opening of the outpost in Širokača was attended by the head of the First Police Administration of the Sarajevo Canton, Fahrudin Halač, as well as numerous police officers and citizens. The outpost of the Stari Grad Police Station is located in the premises of the Širokača local community, at Za beglukom street no. 73.
