Double European weightlifting champion killed on the front line in Ukraine

(Patria) - Double European weightlifting champion Oleksandr Peleshenko has been killed in the war in Ukraine.

This information was announced by the coach of the Ukrainian national team, Viktor Slobodjanjuk.

Peleshenko was killed on Sunday during fighting on the front line. He joined the army in 2022.

Peleshenko competed in major competitions from 2015 to 2017, after which he was suspended for doping in 2018.

He was the European champion in the up to 85 kg category in 2016 and 2017.

He participated in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, as well as the World Championship a year earlier, where he finished fourth.
