Suspect apprehended in Sarajevo for attempting to join foreign battlefields in Syria and Iraq

Through operational work, a suspect was located and apprehended in the Sarajevo municipality of Novi Grad, who was making contact with the aim of going to Syria.

On the order of the BiH Prosecutor's Office and in coordination and cooperation with operatives of OSA BiH and SIPA police officers, a suspect under investigation for illegally joining foreign paramilitary or paramilitary formations was apprehended in the Sarajevo municipality of Novi Grad.

The BiH Prosecutor's Office and security agencies obtained information and evidence that this suspect had been in contact with individuals residing in the battlefields of Syria and Iraq, within structures close to the so-called "ISIL", and inquired about ways to travel and join these formations.

The suspect is a young person.

After questioning the suspect, the acting prosecutor will decide on further actions in accordance with the law.

The BiH Prosecutor's Office, together with police and security agencies in BiH and abroad, is continuously undertaking activities to detect, prevent, and sanction BiH citizens who intend to join foreign paramilitary or paramilitary formations, which is prohibited by law for BiH citizens.
