Information has leaked that, as part of the reorganization of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska, a special police Directorate for Combating Terrorism is being formed, which should be headed by Predrag Ćeranić, reports the Patria News Agency.
The opposition believes that this is an abuse of the police and the formation of a police unit for the protection of the regime, i.e., SNSD.
- Under the guise of combating terrorism and protecting the constitutional order of Republika Srpska, an SNSD party police is being formed, claims SDS president Mladen Bosić, warning SNSD not to play with such things.
- This is a typical sign of the regime's weakness and fear of losing power, states PDP president Mladen Ivanić, adding:
- SNSD has nothing left to offer the people except fear and threats from secret services.
According to the opposition's information, people who, as they claim, have been serving the regime for years for petty personal gain should head this unit.
- If the information is true that an anti-terrorist unit has been formed at the proposal of the Council for the Protection of the Constitutional Order, headed by Predrag Ćeranić, then I can say that it will be a unit for the protection of the regime, not for the protection of the constitutional order or the fight against terrorism, says NDP president Dragan Čavić.
When asked about the new police unit and the cadre that will lead it, the Minister of Internal Affairs of the MUP of RS, Dragan Lukač, answers.
- Such a structure, which is supposed to be new, will not be headed by the person you mention. He will certainly not be at the head of any new structure in the MUP.
In addition to denying that Ćeranić would head the unit, the minister did not deny the formation or existence of this unit in any way.
The question arises as to why this unit is being formed if there are already institutions for combating terrorism and protecting the constitutional order of Srpska.
The problem is also the undefined stance on what can be considered terrorism or anti-constitutional activity. Could the gathering of a group of dissatisfied workers, students, or some other group of citizens be defined as anti-constitutional activity?
What is known is that members of anti-terrorist units have significantly greater powers than other police agencies. (BNTV)
