(Patria) - Twenty miners were rescued today from a fire that broke out in the production facility of a company in Bor, eastern Serbia, the local Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) announced.
The MUP stated that the fire broke out around 11 AM, that there were no injuries, but did not specify in which company the fire started.
The Chinese company "Ziđin" took over the Bor Mining and Smelting Basin at the end of 2018.
The company did not respond to an urgent inquiry from Radio Free Europe as to whether the fire broke out on their premises.
"Firefighting teams immediately responded to the report of a fire on the tower, arrived at the scene, and quickly intervened to evacuate the miners who were trapped underground," the MUP statement said.
It was added that the firefighting efforts are ongoing.
The company "Ziđin" is involved in the exploration and exploitation of copper ore, gold, and other minerals in eastern Serbia.
Currently, according to company data, it employs 6,200 workers.
