DAMASCUS, (Patria) - Seven mass graves containing the remains of hundreds of unidentified victims have been found near Al-Bukamal, the former stronghold of the so-called Islamic State in the province of Deir al-Zor in eastern Syria, the state news agency SANA announced.
"Competent authorities have found seven mass graves with hundreds of unidentified bodies," SANA reports, claiming that the so-called Islamic State is responsible for this.
SANA states that civil defense teams and the Syrian Red Crescent have found 101 bodies, most of whom were tortured and abused before execution, and that excavation and identification work is ongoing.
Among the bodies are women, a source from the Syrian Red Crescent confirmed to the agency.
Al-Bukamal is located near the Iraqi border, and the Syrian army liberated it in November last year.
