Statehood Day of BiH Marked on Igman with Central Mass Afforestation Action KS

(Patria) . Organized by the Ministry of Economy of Sarajevo Canton and KJP „Sarajevo – šume“ d.o.o. Sarajevo, Statehood Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina was marked today on Igman with a ceremonial afforestation and a suitable cultural and artistic program.

This program was organized as the final activity of the autumn season of the afforestation campaign under the slogan „Plant for life, a gift to the homeland“, because trees are an extremely important resource for future generations, both of our homeland and the entire planet.

As part of this central event of the autumn phase of the mass afforestation campaign, planting was organized today on Igman, in which 265 high school students from Hadžići and Ilijaš participated, ministers of the Government of Sarajevo Canton, representatives of the embassies of Malaysia and Brazil, mayors of Sarajevo municipalities, directors of schools from Sarajevo Canton, and employees of the company „Sarajevo – šume“.

„There are many ways to show love and care for the homeland, and we chose to express our care for the homeland by planting new seedlings with our children, because we want young people to feel a connection with their country by learning the importance of one of the most important resources our homeland possesses“, emphasized the Minister of Economy Adnan Delić, congratulating everyone on Statehood Day at today's ceremonial program on Igman.

After the ceremonial afforestation action, a suitable program was held, in which members of KUD „Igman“ Hadžići, the older kindergarten group of Kindergarten „Al-Isra“ Vogošća, and high school student Hana Sejmenović from the Hadžići High School Center participated, who recited „A Song to Bosnia and Herzegovina“, authored by another student of this school, Elvedina Suljić.

„Students and our guests today planted 6,000 new seedlings that we are gifting to our homeland for this great holiday“, said the Minister of Education and upbringing Naida Hota-Muminović.

The minister reminded those present that Bosnia and Herzegovina will exist as much as each of us individually strives for it to exist, by preserving and protecting the environment and positive values, and passing them on to younger generations. 

During the program, guests were also addressed by Ahmet Sejdić, director of BH Forests, Nijaz Skenderagić on behalf of the Employers' Association of KS, and Samir Omerović, director of KJP „Sarajevo – šume“, the company most responsible for the realization of this afforestation campaign.

At the end of the program, Director Omerović presented certificates of appreciation to the directors of the schools that participated in this first, pilot phase of the afforestation campaign and to the companies that, as sponsors, facilitated the realization of this campaign in many ways.

This unusual way of marking a national holiday is certainly new, but as Minister Delić pointed out, the Ministry of Economy, in cooperation with relevant ministries and public enterprises, will continue to work on this project in the coming years, make it a core program of work for every subsequent Government, popularize it, and improve it to a national level.

The minister also commented on the lack of media interest, stating that it is unusual that many are ready to say that nothing positive is being done, but when something is done, their support, which is crucially important, is absent.
