Jasmin Viković arrested at the border, suspected of crimes against Croats in Konjic

 

Acting on the order of the BiH Prosecutor's Office, upon entering the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, members of the BiH Border Police arrested Jasmin Viković Jasko, born in 1971 in Zavidovići, a citizen of BiH, the BiH Prosecutor's Office announced, reports the Patria News Agency.

The suspect is under investigation by the Special Department for War Crimes and is suspected of having acted contrary to the provisions of the Geneva Conventions on the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, as a member of the Diversionary-Reconnaissance Platoon from Zenica, Army of RBiH, in the Konjic area.

He is suspected of having participated, together with other persons, at the end of August 1993, in Orahovica, in the municipality of Konjic, in the unlawful detention of three civilians, elderly persons of Croat nationality, who were repeatedly tortured, abused, and beaten by the suspect Viković, as well as other members of the Army of RBiH, and imprisoned in a facility, where they continued to beat them and inflict severe injuries, especially to the head.

After the abuse, one civilian died from the injuries sustained, and the suspect came to the facility the next day and, by firing a firearm, killed the remaining two prisoners. After questioning the suspect, the acting prosecutor will decide on further measures and activities.

The BiH Prosecutor's Office is conducting an investigation in this case, during which it was learned that the suspect has been living abroad for several years, and the Border Police were issued an order to arrest the suspect immediately upon entering the territory of BiH.

The BiH Prosecutor's Office is making intensive efforts to identify and prosecute perpetrators of war crimes, wherever they may be, and in this process cooperates with law enforcement agencies in BiH and abroad, the statement said.
