On this day 22 years ago: Nine innocent young men killed in Operation Trebević II

In the 'Trebević II' operation, carried out on 26 October 1993 to enable the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina to crack down on crime within its own ranks, nine young men were killed, reports the Patria news agency.

In an attempt to arrest the renegade commander of the 10th Mountain Brigade, Mušan Topalović Caco, nine young police officers lost their lives.

They were tasked with arresting Caco. Their bodies were later found mutilated, and according to the official version, Caco was killed the following day during an escape attempt.

The operation was carried out on the orders of the President of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Alija Izetbegović, and was marked as the largest military-police operation aimed at establishing order within its own ranks and bringing renegade military groups back into the system.

The operation turned into a tragedy in which the lives were lost of Admir Hebib (1969), Izet Karšić (1959), Kemal Kojić (1960), Dragan Miljanović (1967), Slaven Markešić (1965), Srđan Bosiljčić (1963), Elvir Šovšić (1974), Hamid Humić (1959) and Jasmin Čamidžija (1968). They were buried in Veliki Park in Sarajevo.
