16 years ago today, Zoran Đinđić was assassinated

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - 16 years ago today, the Prime Minister of Serbia and leader of the Democratic Party, Zoran Đinđić, was assassinated.

The anniversary of the event that significantly influenced Serbia's destiny was marked by walks, laying wreaths and flowers at his grave and at the site of his death - in the government courtyard.

A promotion of the publication "Speeches in Honour of Zoran 2006-2018" will be held in the Belgrade Cultural Centre Hall, as well as the announcement of the winners of the first "Zoran Đinđić Hackathon" competition.

Representatives of the Democratic Party (DS), admirers and friends laid a wreath and flowers today at the grave of the assassinated Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Đinđić in the Alley of Meritorious Citizens at the New Cemetery in Belgrade.

Tribute to the Prime Minister assassinated on this day 16 years ago was paid by the party president Zoran Lutovac, as well as other representatives of the Democrats - Dragoslav Šumarac, Balša Božović, Zoran Alimpić, Maja Videnović, Aleksandra Jerkov, and others.

"This should not be understood as nurturing a cult of personality, but as a desire to nurture and respect the political legacy of Zoran Đinđić, and to inherit the political ideas and philosophy that he implemented in Serbia," Lutovac told reporters at the New Cemetery.

He said that Đinđić should not only be remembered on March 12, but always when talking about reforms, modernization, and everything necessary for Serbia to become a normal country.

"Đinđić wrote a book about Yugoslavia as an unfinished state and did everything to make Serbia a finished state," said the leader of the DS.
