15 killed, over 100 wounded during Eid tournament in Dobrinja in 1993

(Patria) - The 30th anniversary of the massacre committed against civilians during an Eid tournament on June 1, 1993, was marked today at the parking lot on Trg djece Dobrinje street in Dobrinja.

By reciting Fatiha, marking the anniversary of this massacre and honoring those who lost their lives, flowers were laid today by delegations from the Municipality of Novi Grad Sarajevo, the Municipal Council, the Council of the Local Community “Dobrinja C“, representatives of JOB “Union of Veterans“, a delegation from the Canton of Sarajevo, the Coordination of Veterans' Associations, political parties, students from elementary schools “Osman Nuri Hadžić” and “Skender Kulenović”, as well as numerous relatives, friends, and neighbors of the fallen.

On this day 30 years ago, two mortar shells fired from the positions of the Army of Republika Srpska from the direction of Veljine fell on the parking lot where the Eid tournament was being played, killing 15 and seriously and lightly wounding more than 100 citizens, mostly children and youth.

Atif Bajraktarević, Mirza Deljković, Alija Godinjak, Alija Gojak, Adnan Mirvić, Kemal Mulaahmetović, Dragan Osadčij, Refik Ramić, Jusuf Razić, Munir Sabanić, Adel Selmanović, Danijel Šolaja, Damir Trebo, Asim Zagorica, and Marko Žižić were killed in the massacre.

Every year, the Municipality of Novi Grad Sarajevo, in cooperation with the Association of Organizations “JOB Union of Veterans” of the Municipality of Novi Grad, marks this significant date, which is part of the municipal program for marking significant events and personalities from the defense-liberation war 1992-95, in order to save our innocent fellow citizens from oblivion.

Adem Kajanija, president of the Association “JOB Union of Veterans” Novi Grad Sarajevo, emphasized the importance of marking such events and preserving the culture of remembrance for us and for the generations to come. For next Monday (05/06/2023), Kajanija announced the holding of a memorial chess tournament, which will be held on this occasion in the premises of the Association at Trg solidarnosti street number 13, and a memorial mini-football tournament will be held on the same day at 10 AM at the FK Dobrinja stadium.
