Man Racked Pistol at Police Officer Who Returned Fire and Wounded Him, One Person Arrested

In the night between Monday and Tuesday around 3:20 AM in Muvekita Street, Stari Grad Sarajevo municipality, a man M.O. born in 1974 was walking with a pistol in his hand. In his company was M.O. born in 1976. The police officer ordered the man to put down the weapon, to which he did not respond and racked the pistol towards the police officer, the Ministry of Interior of Sarajevo Canton announced, Patria agency reports.

The police officer used his service pistol against M.O. and, firing two shots, hit him in the leg and stomach.

The injured person received medical assistance at the General Hospital "Prim. Dr. Abdulah Nakaš", where he was kept for further treatment. Doctors determined that M.O. suffered serious bodily injuries and is not in life-threatening condition. He is suspected of committing the criminal offenses of assault on an authorized official in the performance of security duties and Article 52 of the ZONDINOIM.

The Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton was notified. The on-site investigation was led by the prosecutor of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton.

Due to reasonable suspicion of committing the criminal offense of assault on an authorized official in the performance of security duties, M.O., who was in the company of the injured person, was arrested. 

Work continues on the full elucidation and documentation of the said incident, as well as the search for another perpetrator whose identity is known to police officers.
