Man tried to avoid paying tax on a watch worth 68,000 KM

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Officials of the Indirect Taxation Authority at Sarajevo International Airport prevented an attempt to avoid paying import duties on an expensive watch of the brand ,,Ulysse Nardin“ with a market value of 68,000 KM.

Authorized officials of the Smuggling and Offence Prevention Group, Regional Center Sarajevo, based on information shared by colleagues from the Customs Administration of the Republic of Croatia, intercepted and inspected the luggage of a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina who attempted to enter BiH via Sarajevo International Airport.

During the inspection, with the help of a stationary ,,Smith&Heimann“ scanner, donated by the EXBS program, the luggage of the said person was scanned. During the scan, an expensive ,,Ulysse Nardin“ watch worth 68,000 KM was found and seized, which the said person attempted to bring into the territory of BiH without paying import duties, and for which they had previously submitted a VAT refund request in the country of export.

These actions confirmed the information shared by colleagues from Croatia with the ITA, and based on it, a valuable seizure was made.

- It is important to note that this type of cooperation with colleagues from Croatia was established through constant participation in regional training organized by the EXBS program of the US Government - stated the ITA.
