Head of the OSCE Mission in BiH Jonathan Moore held a meeting with the Chief Disciplinary Prosecutor of BiH Arben Murtezić at the premises of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council, reports a reporter of the BH News Agency Patria.
This meeting was initiated by Murtezić, and Moore responded to the invitation, and as they stated, they discussed general topics about the judiciary.
Murtezić said that they invited Ambassador Moore, appreciating all his engagement in the field of judiciary in BiH, and that this is part of the HJPC's overall efforts towards greater transparency and openness towards both the domestic community and everyone else.
- The topics today were more general. We wanted to inform the ambassador about the work of the Disciplinary Prosecutor's Office, its basic responsibilities, and the issues we face. And to generally exchange views, given that the system of accountability in the judiciary is important not only in BiH but also in the world – said Murtezić.
Ambassador Moore, on the other hand, said that it is not about his personal engagement but about everyone in the OSCE Mission in BiH.
- I am especially pleased to have the opportunity to meet in this building with people who defend the principles of justice in BiH and seek justice at the state level. We respect all state judicial institutions, including the HJPC, the Court, and the Prosecutor's Office of BiH. Our colleague, Judge Corner, will return to BiH next week and will have a series of meetings with both the HJPC and the Prosecutor's Office, and we expect the results of her analysis of work by mid-November – stated Moore.
We remind you that the OSCE has engaged Judge Joanne Corner, who is to conduct an analysis of war crimes cases, which the BiH Prosecutor's Office initially strongly opposed. However, the HJPC issued a recommendation to allow access to the cases. When asked how these permissions are connected to the dissatisfaction in RS, which is why they are announcing a referendum on the judiciary, Moore said that it has nothing to do with it.
- That is a completely separate issue. We have had permission from the HJPC regarding the prosecution of war crimes since 2006. It is important to conduct this analysis, and the referendum is a completely different issue. Also, regarding discipline, we have no jurisdiction there; that is up to Arben and his team – stated Moore.
