RS MoI: Arrested for causing a fire

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Prijedor Police Administration was informed on Wednesday, April 8, that a fire broke out in the open in the village of Sjeverovci, municipality of Kozarska Dubica, which spread uncontrollably and engulfed private property parcels and state-owned forest parcels under the jurisdiction of Public Enterprise "Gradiška".

During the day, the fire was localized by members of the fire departments from Kozarska Dubica and Gradiška, the RS MoI announced.

Through operational work in the field, police officers of the Prijedor Police Administration learned that an individual identified as R. L. from Kozarska Dubica, after burning weeds and low vegetation in a field, left the burning material unattended, causing the fire to spread uncontrollably to surrounding parcels and the forest, and that they had not previously notified the competent fire department about lighting a fire in the open.

The duty prosecutor of the District Public Prosecutor's Office Prijedor was informed about everything, to whom a report will be submitted against the individual R. L. for the committed criminal offense of "Causing general danger" after the case is completed.

The Prijedor Police Administration appeals to all citizens to carry out the burning of weeds and other combustible material in open spaces only during favorable weather conditions and in areas they can control.

The Law on Fire Protection stipulates a fine of 100 KM to 1,000 KM for the offense of a natural person who burns weeds and other agricultural waste without prior notification to the fire-rescue unit and without taking all necessary actions to prevent the spread of fire.

In case of uncontrolled spread of fire, it is necessary to immediately notify the firefighters at number 123, the police at number 122, or the Information Center at number 112.
