MUP KS officially responds: B.O. threatened police with "Preporod"!?

The Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Interior of Sarajevo Canton today, seven days after the unfortunate event!?, issued a press release about the incident that occurred on July 1, reports the Patria news agency.

The statement, which is at the very least confusing, came only after the media yesterday wrote about the prominent Islamic theologian and lecturer at FIN, Prof. Orhan Bajraktarević, who stated that he was beaten on the 27th night of Ramadan, with medical evidence from the General Hospital “Prim.dr. Abdulah Nakaš” testifying to the injuries inflicted.

It is indicative why the MUP KS did not immediately comment on the “attack on police in official premises,” nor was this case mentioned at all in the daily bulletin regularly sent to the media and also available on the MUP KS website for July 1 and 2.

NAP publishes the MUP KS statement in full:

On July 1, 2016, police officers of the Stari Grad Sarajevo Police Station left a traffic ticket on a passenger motor vehicle, make "VW Golf", license plate A74-O-365, which was parked in a space reserved for disabled persons.

On the same day at around 23:30 hours, B.O. from Sarajevo entered the official premises of the Stari Grad Sarajevo Police Station and expressed dissatisfaction regarding the traffic ticket left on the said motor vehicle, of which he is the owner. He was informed that the traffic ticket was left on the mentioned vehicle due to a traffic violation under the Law on Road Traffic Safety in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that if he disagreed with it, he had the option to request a court decision on the said traffic ticket.

On July 2, 2016, at around 02:55 hours, in Zelenih beretki Street, Stari Grad Sarajevo municipality, B.O. approached police officers, addressing them with derogatory words and threatening to publish them on the front page of the "Preporod" newspaper. The police officers requested his ID card for inspection, which he refused, continuing with further threats.

The police officers brought B.O. to the official premises to establish his identity. Checks revealed that he is B.O., born in 1956 in Špionica, residing in Sarajevo. He stated that he did not feel well and requested medical assistance, which was provided. After receiving medical aid, B.O. left the official premises.

During his stay in the official premises, as well as during the police intervention towards B.O., no force was used.

We note that B.O. did not complain to any organizational unit of the Ministry of Interior of Sarajevo Canton about the actions of the police officers of the Stari Grad Police Station. The Professional Standards Unit of this Ministry will verify the allegations published in certain media regarding the said event.
