Mujo Hadžiomerović: Bosniaks in RS are only good for paying taxes

The Law on Amendments to the Law on Immovable Property Tax in Republika Srpska has only one goal, and that is to seize land from Bosniaks in this entity, claims for the BH news agency Patria Mujo Hadžiomerović, delegate of Bosniak people in the Council of Peoples of Republika Srpska. He stated that a whole set of laws has been adopted in Republika Srpska recently, aimed at seizing property from Bosniaks in this entity, primarily the Law on Cadastre, and now the Law on Amendments to the Law on Immovable Property Tax.

- They have been doing this excellently since Načertanije, they are doing it excellently through agrarian reform, and now through a whole set of laws aimed at changing the ownership structure in this entity – explains Hadžiomerović.

The Law on Amendments to the Law on Immovable Property Tax in Republika Srpska stipulates the payment of property tax, which, if not paid within eight days of the invoice date, allows the RS tax administration to seize the property from its actual owner, sell it at auction, and thus settle its claims. The law, according to informed sources, is not at all naive, as it is known that many who live abroad will most often miss the tax payment due to the short payment deadline of only eight days, thus automatically losing their property.

- Imagine how many people living in the diaspora will not be able to meet this eight-day deadline, primarily because they will not be able to find out immediately that their tax payment invoice has been issued – explains Hadžiomerović.

Bosniaks living in Republika Srpska, he says, are only good for tax collection by the authorities there. And when Bosniaks need to exercise their rights in this entity, it is almost impossible.

The Club of Delegates of Bosniak People in the Council of Peoples of RS has submitted two amendments to this law, which are to be discussed before the joint commission of the Council of Peoples of RS and the National Assembly of RS on July 14 this year.

- We have proposed two amendments to this law. The first amendment states that an unpaid invoice cannot be grounds for seizure and sale of land without a prior court process, and the second amendment requests an extension of the eight-day deadline – explained Hadžiomerović. The final fate of this law will be known after July 14, writes Patria.
