Moscow sees possibility of reducing diplomatic relations with Washington

(Patria) - Moscow could lower the level of diplomatic relations with Washington if certain scenarios develop, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov told TASS.

According to him, Russia has never been the first to take such steps in relations with the United States or other NATO countries.

"But, in my opinion, (such steps) are quite possible if the West chooses the path of escalation," he said, adding that developments that would allow for a reduction in diplomatic relations "do not necessarily imply increased support for Kyiv," but imply, for example, measures "related to our assets or other moves in the economic domain."

Ryabkov, however, added that he was not ready to theorize what exactly could be the "trigger" for this situation.

"I am not ready to theorize on this topic," he said.

"If the situation continues to worsen, it will become the subject of concrete analysis and decision-making at the political leadership level."
