Moscow supports Trump's plan for Gaza, but also the creation of an independent State of Palestine

(Patria) - The Kremlin hopes that US President Donald Trump's peace plan for Gaza will be implemented, and a Russian diplomat offered additional support in a phone call with a senior official of the Palestinian Authority, it was announced on Tuesday, Reuters reported.

On Monday, Trump secured the support of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for a peace proposal sponsored by the United States to end the nearly two-year war in Gaza, but it is unclear whether Hamas will accept the plan. In a phone call with reporters, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia always supports and welcomes all of Trump's efforts aimed at ending the tragedy
that is currently unfolding.

"And, of course, we want this plan to be implemented and to help bring a peaceful end to the events in the Middle East."

Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin later told Palestinian Authority Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh by phone that Russia supports "all steps that will facilitate an end to the bloodshed," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"The hope was expressed that the successful implementation of the new American initiative will enable a sustainable ceasefire in Gaza, the release of hostages and detainees, and the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to the area."

Moscow, it is stated, supports a solution that envisions "the creation of an independent State of Palestine that coexists in peace and harmony with Israel."

Russia has criticized Israeli military operations in Gaza over the past two years amid the deepening alliance between Moscow and Israel's main rival, Iran.

Moscow claims that the two-state solution is the only way to end the conflict in the Middle East.
