(Patria) - European Union Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas reportedly hopes to play a mediating role in potential future negotiations between Russia and the European Union, TASS reports.
However, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova dismissed such prospects, telling TASS that Kaja Kallas's efforts are "futile".
Zakharova commented on Kaja Kallas's expressed aspirations to serve as a mediator, emphasizing that her hopes are unlikely to be realized.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on May 9 that former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder remains Russia's preferred interlocutor for any upcoming negotiations with the European Union.
