Trump and Xi could meet on the sidelines of APEC summit

(Patria) - US President Donald Trump plans to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in South Korea in October.

It is precisely on the sidelines of APEC that he could meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping, CNN reported, citing sources, TASS reported last night.

According to CNN, discussions are underway regarding the organization of a meeting between the two leaders, but no agreements have been reached yet.

The White House confirmed to CNN that the US President's visit to South Korea is possible and that his goal will be to negotiate economic, trade, civil energy, and defense cooperation.

The APEC summit, chaired by the Republic of Korea, will be held on October 31 and November 1 in Gyeongju.

CNN reported that Trump's trip to the Republic of Korea could provide him with an opportunity to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

According to CNN, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung invited his US counterpart to the APEC summit last week and suggested that the platform could become a venue for talks with the North Korean leader.

Ambassador of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Marat Berdyev told TASS earlier that the Republic of Korea, as the organizer of this year's APEC summit, sent an invitation to Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Moscow will later decide on the level of the delegation it will send there.
