(Patria) - Police are baffled by a "mysterious object" washed ashore on a beach in Western Australia.
The giant metal object was found by locals on Green Head beach, about 250 kilometers north of Perth.
The object is being treated as dangerous, and police have urged people not to approach it.
"We want to reassure the community that we are actively involved in working with various state and federal agencies to determine the origin and nature of the object," police said.
Residents say the object is 2.5 meters wide and between 2.5 and 3 meters long, Australian public television reported.
A giant mysterious metal cylinder has left locals stumped after the debris appeared suddenly on the shoreline of WA's Midwest.
The huge metal object was found on a beach near Green Head on Sunday, with local residents reporting the suspicious item to police.

Aviation expert Geoffrey Thomas believes the object is likely a fuel tank from a rocket that fell into the Indian Ocean within the last year, reports Index.hr.
The Australian Space Agency stated that it is possible the giant cylinder could have fallen from the "side of a space rocket" and will connect with other international agencies.
Although there has been some speculation that the cylinder might have been part of MH370 - the plane that disappeared off the coast of Western Australia in 2014 with 239 passengers, Thomas said "there is no chance".
"It's not part of a Boeing 777, and the fact is MH370 was lost nine and a half years ago, so there would be much more wear and tear visible on the wreckage," he added.
