Security measures: RS police on the streets with long guns on the day of Karadžić's verdict

In the Republika Srpska, especially in returnee settlements, security measures will be increased on March 24, the day Radovan Karadžić's verdict is delivered in The Hague, confirmed for the Patria News Agency the director of the RS police, Gojko Vasić.

- We have already started increasing the number of police officers on the streets a few days ago, in certain places because Croats have already started arriving to mark the upcoming Easter.

Also, the number of police officers will be increased on March 24 in places with Bosniak returnees, Vasić explained, adding that they are monitoring the situation on the ground, but that they currently do not have operational information that could lead to unrest.

- Regardless, we will be ready. Because you never know what a minor incident could escalate into, Vasić points out, and when asked if this means bringing long guns back to the streets, he answered affirmatively.

Vasić notes that the RS Ministry of Internal Affairs is in constant communication with all police agencies in BiH, especially the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies of BiH (DKPT), in order to be prepared for potential unrest in advance.

The Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies of BiH will also additionally secure two locations for which it is responsible - the Embassy of Serbia in Sarajevo and the Potočari Memorial Center.
